El Centro, California - Teen Shot Dead

An El Centro teenager died Monday morning after being shot in the head by his best friend. El Centro Police were called to a house in the 100 block of East Hamilton Monday morning at about 7:30. When officers arrived they found 18 year-old Michael Guzman of El Centro dead of a single gunshot wound to the head. During the initial investigation , 19 year old Paul Dilan , who lives in the house , told investigators that Guzman shot himself. Detective Crispin Beltran conducted a more in depth interview and during that questioning Dilan admitted to accidentally shooting Guzman who he said was his best friend. According to Dilan, he and Guzman spent the night of July 6th and the early morning hours of July 7th smoking marijuana, drinking beer and sniffing aerosol paint fumes. The weapon used, an unregistered 30-30 caliber lever-action rifle was found in the bedroom. Dilan was booked into Imperial County Jail on a charge of involuntary manslaughter. He's being held on $50,000 bail and is due in court tomorrow for arrainment. The autopsy for Guzman is scheduled for Friday.
