| One man is in custody and a second man received minor injuries during an armed robbery attempt early this morning in El Centro. The incident occurred at the 7-11 on South 4th Street shortly after midnight this morning.A store clerk heard a commotion in one of the stores aisles. The clerk than saw a man , later identified as 23-year-old Felix Adrian Vasquez III , holding a knife to the neck of 23-year-old Bobby Martinez of El Centro. Vasquez then swung the knife at the victim. The clerk called El Centro Police who were able to chase Vasquez down in a nearby residential area. Vasquez struggled with officers before finally being taken into custody. The knife used in the crime was discovered nearby. Martinez suffered a superficial wound to his left upper torso. He did not require medical attention. Vasquez was booked into Imperial County Jail on one charge of armed robbery, 2 charges of assault with a deadly weapon and one charge of resisting arrest. He is being held on $100,000 bail.Sgt. Jeff Mason of the El Centro Police Department told KXO News that the motive for Vasquez's actions are not known. He ssaid it was also not known yet if the victim knew the suspect prior to the event. Mason praised the store clerk for keeping a cool head in the situation. |
