(The name of the driver of the vehicle that hit Christian Lopez has been released)….El Centro Patrol Sergeant John Seaman said the driver of the Mustang was 22-year-old Yvette Garibay.

The Sergeant says Garibay has been very cooperative in the investigation into the incident that killed 11-year-old Christian Arturo Lopez. The boy was hit while riding his bike Saturday on Countryside Drive in South El Centro. Seaman says the investigation is being conducted slow and meticulous to determine all the facts are gathered. He said Officers did not detect any signs of alcohol or drug use by Garibay, but the young woman voluntarily submitted to toxicology tests. The Sergeant said there were no witnesses to determine how fast the woman was driving at the time of the tragic incident. Seaman said his department has not received any past complaints against the woman’s driving. He said the department has never received any complaints of anyone speeding in that sub-division. The Sergeant said it has been determined the boy was hit by the vehicle and dragged approximately 73 feet. He said given the circumstances, that reaction time is not that unusual.
