| The first part of the two part dove hunting season starts September 1st in the Imperial Valley and continues through September 15th. There are a few changes to the Migratory Upland Game Bird season hat covers dove hunting in the Imperial Valley. Daily bag and possession limits for white-winged and mourning doves remain at 10 per day in aggregate with double the daily limit in aggregate in possession.White-winged doves may be taken only in Riveside , San Bernardino and Imperial Counties. There is no daily bag limit or possession limit for spotted doves , Eurasian collared-doves and ringed turtle-doves. The Eurasian collared-dove and ringed turtle-dove are non-native species that have expanded their range to include Imperial County. The Eurasian collared-dove originally established a population in Florida several decades ago. The ringed turtle-dove are a popular caged bird that has flourished in the wild after escaping captivity or being released from captivity. There is no open hunting season on common ground-doves, ruddy ground-doves and Inca doves. The second part of dove season runs November 8th through December 22nd of this year. Flocks of doves are found throughout the Imperial Valley agricultural areas as well as around the Colorado River areas from Blythe to Winterhaven. The birds attract flocks of hunters from all over Southern California as well as locals. Imperial Valley restaurants , motels and campgrounds fill up for the annual event. Dove populations are said to be good and should remain that way barring heavy storm activity in the Valley. |
