(Environmentalists want to take more land away from public)….Currently thousands of acres have been removed from public access.

The purpose is to protect endangered wilderness areas. Bob Ham, with County Intergovernmental Affairs, says environmentalists want to reopen discussion on the Wilderness Act. Ham said the groups have scheduled meetings with the staff of Senator Diane Feinstein. He said they want the Senator to back efforts to close off more land from public access. Ham said the County and other entities will argue that if new land is to be taken away from public access, land currently closed to the public should be opened up to recreational use. Meetings on the issue are beginning this week.
