(Fire Crews checking for hot spots)…County Fire officials say crews remain on the scene Monday, cleaning up and watching for hot spots at the River Bottom near Holtville.

The fire was reported Sunday afternoon. Officials say the blaze started with a blast at a storage unit North of Holtville. The storage unit contained fireworks. The blast spread the fire down the river bottom next to the facility, threatening structures, ag fields, a dairy, feedlot, several other structures and vehicles. County Fire responded to the blaze, and immediately called in a second alarm. Mutual aid came in from El Centro, Holtville, Brawley, Calipatria, Calexico and the Naval Air Facility. Monday morning County officials said a damage estimate was not available, but aside from the original structure, most of the damage was to the brush along the riverbank. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation, as County crews are still on the scene.
