(The County wants to build more Bike Paths)…..The Board of Supervisors agreed Tuesday to seek more grant money to construct four more Bike Lanes in the County.

The grants are issued by Caltrans, through their Bicycle Transportation Account Program. The County has already funded five different BTA Projects using Caltrans grants. The Public Works Department will be seeking $900,000 to construct a Bike Lane from Imperial Highway, from Evan Hewes Highway to the new Ocotillo Community Park, and they will seek $365,000 to construct a Bike Lane on Drew Road, from Interstate 8 to .6 miles South. Public Works filed applications for two other Projects last year, but so far have heard nothing from Caltrans. Public Works Directors William Brunet says his department will reapply for those grants. One is for $503,000. That Bike lane will go from McCabe Road, from La Brucherie Road to McCabe School. The other is for a Lane on Holt Road, from Holtville City Limits to Worthington Road, for an estimated $884,000. Each grant calls for a ten percent match by the County. Supervisor Wally Leimgruber said with the soaring gas prices, the Bike Lanes may become more and more useful.
