(County Board begins final phase for new budget)…County Executive Officer Roberta Burns told the Supervisors Tuesday the tentative budget totals $308 million.

She said the tentative General Fund for the 2008-09 spending plan stands at $205 million. Burns said the numbers indicate the County is in better financial shape than before, but it is not in the best shape. Budget hearings begin June 9 at 9:00 am. The C E O said County Departments will give their budget reports to the Supervisors, and the Board will make adjustments to the spending plan.

Burns said she planned on asking the Board for approval of a balanced budget on June 17. She warned, however, that the balanced spending plan approved by the Board could change. Burns said the State is facing a deficit of around $17 billion, and how the State decides to balance its budget will affect County Budgets. Burns said the State is anticipating its revised budget numbers some time in August.
