(Firefighters are kept busy)…One firefighter said fires in Imperial County historically come in 3’s, and hopefully they are now over for a while . The first fire Tuesday was reported in the 300 block of Main Street in El Centro at 4:20 in the afternoon. The site was a vacant Packing Shed. Officials say the fire was in the trash inside the building. It was put out and fire fighters were back at the station by 5:00 pm. It is suspected the fire was started by transient who stay in the vacant building. The 2^nd fire was reported at Mama Magees on the East Side of Brawley. That was a kitchen fire. The 3^rd fire was actually reported by the engine crew responding to the 2^nd fire. The crew spotted smoke coming from the Planters Hotel. By the time they could respond the blaze was out of control, and assistance was called in from around the County and from Yuma. A possible 4^th fire may have been reported in Heber Tuesday. No information is available on that fire. The County department did not answer repeated phone calls.
