County looks to recoup medi-cal funds

(Public Administrator to apply for Local Entity funds)…Norma Saikhon told the County Board of Supervisors she wanted to apply for funds under the Local Entity Mitigation Competitive Grant Program. Saikhon said the funds she is seeking would replace the funds lost to medi-cal. She said the application would be for $171,479. Saikhon said the payments were lost from the reduced agriculture jobs as a result of the Imperial Irrigation District’s fallowing program. The Local Entity was formed through the Quantification Settlement Agreement to cover the socio-economic impact mitigation resulting from the fallowing programs. The fallowing programs are part of the Q S A to provide transfer water to San Diego, maintain levels at the Salton Sea and cover other obligations. The Supervisors agreed to have the Board Chairman sign the letter of Declaration and Commitment letter for the application packet. They wished Saikhon luck, saying it never hurt to try.
