(County agrees to provide services to Holtville)…The County Sheriff’s Office has been providing an interim Police Chief and backfilled Deputy Sheriff Services to the City of Holtville since January 2008.

The new contract agreed to by the County Board of Supervisors Tuesday continues the services until January 3, 2009, or five days after the City hires a permanent Chief. Sheriff Ray Loera told the Board he did not expect the services to continue much beyond November. Holtville voters will decide a tax increase measure on the November ballot. The increase would provide the funds for the City to rebuild its police department, including the hiring of a new Chief and possibly new patrol officers, as well. The Sheriff said the contract extension also allows for the reimbursement from the City. Under the agreement, the City of Holtville will pay $59.27 per hour for the interim Chief and $11.95 per hour for the Backfill Services.
