(County moves forward with TENS)….TENS is the Telephone, Emergency Notification System. The Board of Supervisors Tuesday morning agreed to sign a contract to implement the system in Imperial County by September 5. The system is a reverse 911 system, in which residents are called by Emergency Services. The calls would be for immediate evacuations or other such emergencies. San Diego used the system to evacuate residents during the recent fires in their County. Imperial County will use an A T & T and Verizon database to obtain numbers for the system. Residents can also register their cell phone numbers and unregistered telephone numbers in a special website to be posted by the County. The TENS program is to be funded through state funds set aside by the Governor to help counties implement a reverse 911 system. |
