(Cole Road widening project moving forward)….The County has planned to reconstruct and widen Cole Road from the Calexico City limits to Kloke Road for some time.

Tuesday the Board of Supervisors agreed to award the contract for the project. The Daley Corporation out of San Diego submitted the low bid. The San Diego Corporation bid $806,098, which is about $43,900 below the engineer’s estimate. There were four other bids submitted for the project. Public Works Director William Brunet says the project will include not only the widening of Cole Road, but also provide turning lanes which will significantly relieve congestion in the truck impacted area. The project will be funded by the Regional Surface Transportation Program, a Federal Aid Project that will provide for 88.53 % reimbursement. The remainder will come from the County’s Local Transportation funds.
