Late last night U. S. Border Patrrol Agents detained a suspected copper thief on State Highway 78 near the Border Partrols Highway 86 Checkpoint .

Shortly before midnight last night Border Patrol Agents noticed that lghts at a power station were no longer lit. Upon further investigation the agents noticed a hole cut in the stations perimeter fence and a bag filled with copper wire sitting nearby. They then detained a man trying to hide nearby.The Imperial County Sheriffs Office was notified as were Imperial Irrigation District personnel. It was determined that extensive damage to the power station had been done by the suspect. He was turned over to the Imperial County Sheriffs Office and placed under arrest for damage caused to the facility , theft of utility materials and possession of stolen property.
