(Three more lanes may be opened at the East Port of Entry)….The idea is to open the Commercial Port on the weekends for passenger vehicles. It is an idea already being implemented at the Otay Mesa Port. District one County Supervisor Victor Carrillo said the local ad-hoc committee on border issues came up with the idea. They suggested opening the commercial port for passenger vehicles a while back in a meeting with regional Customs and Border Protection Director Guhrdet Dihlon. The idea was presented to the Mexican Government. The Mexican’s O.K.‘d the idea for Otay Mesa. Carrillo said Calexico is still waiting to hear from the Mexican Government. Carrillo says the committee has also asked the Mexican Government to remove a 30-foot obstacle located before traffic gets to the bridge at the East Port. The Supervisor said it would facilitate traffic by getting rid of the obstacle. |
