(There is a public pool in El Centro)…Because of the poor attendance, many may not know that the pool at Central Union High School is open to the public. The City of El Centro is using the High School after they closed the public pool. It was decided to close the Plunge on 8th Street in El Centro because of a poor water circulation system and other hazards. The Recreation Department says the word may not have gotten out, judging by attendance at the High School pool. Only about twenty people are using the High School pool. Officials say normally with triple digit temperatures there would be over 120 people swimming. The High School swimming pool is located on Holt Avenue at 12th Street. Signs will be posted on hours of use. The City has contracted with a firm to develop a design for a new City Pool. They say it would be too expensive to try and fix the Plunge. |
