(Cattle Call Week gets underway)…Activities for the 51^st annual Brawley Cattle Call started this weekend. The kick-off event was the Chili Cook-off, held at Cattle Call Park Saturday. The $1,000 top award went to the Sun Community Federal Credit Union. Second place went to Chicago Title. They picked up $500. The $200 third place award went to Pioneers Memorial Hospital District. The Golden Acorn Casino was awarded the $150 fourth place prize. People’s choice $250 award went to Chicago Title. P M H picked up an additional $250 after being judged best booth and showmanship. The week heated up Sunday with the Fiesta de Cultura at Cattle Call Park. The day began with Mass in the Park. One of the highlights for the day was the Jalapeno chili-eating contest. The top chili eater was 56-year-old Gregorio Iniguez of El Centro. He took home $250. Second place went to the defending champion, 50 year old Miguel Miranda of Brawley. Third place went to 17-year-old Rusty Garcia. The best Salsa award went to Cassandra Martinez of Brawley. The best booth award went to the Brawley Explorers.
