(San Diego suspect preliminary hearing set)…..A Federal Judge in El Centro ordered the preliminary hearing for 31 year old Rachelle Lynette Carlock to held scheduled for May 29. Carlock is charged with illegally purchasing gunpowder in San Diego. She is a convicted felon, and therefore cannot legally purchase gunpowder. The U.S. Attorney alleges she bought four pounds of gunpowder and tried to buy more. The purchase is thought to be in connection with the May 4 bombing outside the Federal Courthouse in San Diego, Carlock has not been charged with that bombing. The court proceedings for the woman are being held in El Centro because Federal officials do not want to conduct them at the scene of the bombing. U.S Magistrate Judge Peter Lewis also refused bail for Carlock this week. The Judge said he based that decision on the defendant’s character and history. Carlock has violated parole six times and probation twice in the past. She also has a history of drug use, a limited employment record and she has four children who do not live with her. She was arrested on the gunpowder charges last week by an F B I Swat Team. |
