(A 45 year old Calexico man suffers fatal injuries)…The California Highway Patrol says the tragedy occurred Monday morning on Forrester Road, at Cady Road. The C H P says at around 8:20 Monday morning a County Water Truck was traveling north on Forrester, and had stopped at the intersection with Cady. The truck was waiting for oncoming traffic to clear in order to make a left turn. Stopped behind the truck was a Honda Accord driven by Juan Gabriel Cornejo from Calexico. Behind him, according to the Highway Patrol, was a Toyota Camry driven by 33-year-old Omara Yadira Vasquez from Riverside. The C H P says approaching the stopped vehicles was a Jeep Cherokee driven by 63-year-old Jose Mendez Corona from Indio, with two male passengers. Behind all four vehicles was a Big Rig, driven by 50-year-old Elias Hernandez Orozco from Bakersfield. The Highway Patrol says the rig was traveling at around 55 miles per hour. The driver reportedly failed to perceive the stopped vehicles ahead. The Big Rig reportedly collided with the rear of the Jeep, pushing it onto the right shoulder. The Rig then impacted the Camry, spinning it counter-clockwise off the left road edge. The Highway Patrol says the Big Rig continued north impacting the Honda Accord, pushing it into the Water Truck, pushing the Accord under the Water Truck. The Water Truck was pushed to the left, where it overturned on Cady Road, coming to rest of its right side. The C H P says the Accord became wedged under the Big Rig and came to rest under the left side of the cab area on the North/west corner of Forrester. The driver of the Accord, Cornejo, suffered fatal injuries. The Highway Patrol says all others in the incident suffered minor injuries.
