Calexico starts over in search for Police Chief PDF Print E-mail

(Calexico’s search for a new Police Chief starts over)…The City Council Tuesday night could not reach a consensus on the name recommended by City Manager Ralph Velez.

The Council was in closed session for over an hour debating the name recommended to replace Mario Sanchez as Police Chief. Sources say the name debated was Lt. Jim Nuehjar, but nobody would go on record to officially say that he was the City Managers recommendation. It was finally decided to start the process all over again. A search firm will be hired. They will submit a couple recommended names to the City Manager, and it will again be up to Velez to select his choice. Sanchez is scheduled to retire as Chief on December 20th, but has apparently indicated he would stay on until February, or until a new Chief could be chosen, whichever comes first.
