Calexico School District commission to discuss controversial issue

(Calexico School District Personnel Commission to discuss Job Descriptions)…The Commission meets at 5:00 tonight. During the meeting, they are scheduled to discuss changing the District Mechanics Job Description to include bus driving as one of their duties. The School District Board recently laid off six bus drivers as a money saving measure. The California School Employees Association opposes the proposal. The C S E A opposed the lay-offs, and threatened to file an Unfair Labor Practice complaint, if the District moved forward with their plan to give the bus driving responsibilities to the mechanics. The Union says the District is trying to get the job descriptions changed before they meet with the Union representatives next week to discuss the Unfair Labor Practice issue. The union contends their contract specifically says the mechanics cannot be assigned bus driving duties if qualified bus drivers are available. Union officials plan to ask the commission tonight to postpone a decision on the job description changes until after the meeting Monday. Tonight’s meeting is being held in the Calexico Administration Building, 901 Andrade Avenue.
