Calexico school bus drivers get the axe

(More lay-offs in Calexico School District)…..The School Board in Calexico voted to lay-off the majority of their bus drivers. On a 4-0 vote, the School Board decided to lay-off six bus drivers. Board member Salvador Pacheco was absent and did not vote. The lay-offs go into effect next school year. With the lay-offs, it leaves the District with three full time bus drivers. The action is part of the School Boards budget trimming actions. The Board issued 18 lay-off notices to teachers a while back. The cutbacks are not only in anticipation of the Districts budget shortfall, but cuts in State Education funding as well.
