(Calexico Police to be looking for Drunk Drivers on Cinco de Mayo)….Calexico Police Chief Jim Neujahr is advising those who will be celebrating the Mexican Holiday not to drink alcohol and then operate a vehicle. The Chief says if you are celebrating and you notice a friend getting out of hand, take their keys. Don’t let them get behind the wheel. The Calexico Police will be setting up a DUI Checkpoint on Monday. They are joining with the National Highway Safety Administration and other federal, state and local highway safety and law enforcement officials across the nation to remind everyone to have fun, but if you plan to partake in alcoholic beverages, act responsibly and designate a sober driver before going out to celebrate. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, from 2002 to 2006, 43 percent of the traffic deaths on Cinco de Mayo were alcohol related. |
