Calexico Council changes their mind

(Calexico takes back an ordinance)…The Calexico City Council changed their minds Tuesday. They had recently approved the first reading of an ordinance making it easier to dismiss the City Manager. The new ordinance said a simple majority vote by the Council would be all that would be needed for dismissal. An ordinance needs two readings to become law. The second reading was set for Tuesday’s City Council meeting. It was on the consent portion of the agenda. Before the consent agenda could be adopted, Councilman John Moreno asked that the ordinance be pulled for further discussion. It was finally decided the original ordinance was fine the way it was. The Council agreed not to approve the second reading of the new ordinance. The policy will remain as it had been, with a vote of at least 4-1 by the Council needed to dismiss the City Manager.
