Calexico Police officers in cooperation with  Immigration and Customs Enforcement seized 99.72 kilos of cocaine last week. The joint operation between Calexico Police and Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ) was working in the vicinity of the Calexico east Port of Entry when a white Chevrolet S-10 pickup was observed entering the United States from Mexico. Officers followed the pickup for several hours , observing suspicious behavior indicative of smuggling. The vehicle was eventually stopped  and a U.S. Customs and Border Protection canine was called in to check the truck. The dog alerted to the presence of drugs and the driver and her passenger were taken into custody. Police arrested 31 year old Karla Barba and 18 year old Karina Gonzalez-Gaeta, both Mexican nationals. 99.72 kilo's of cocaine were found in a false bed of the truck. The two women were arraigned in Federal Court on Friday and remain in custody.
