(Renison decides not to run for re-election)….Calexico Mayor John Renison decided Friday not to seek another term.

The decision allows even more candidates to join the race for three City Council seats on the June third ballot. Renison’s last minute decision extended the filing period five calendar days. Candidates wanting to run for City Council in the Border City have until 5:00 pm Wednesday, March 12 to file their nomination forms. Renison says he will leave office in July. He said he would not drop off the radar. Monday morning he said he would stay active, but he would be taking a two-year hiatus from politics. In the meantime, the ballot grew for the City Council race. City Clerk Lourdes Cordova said Daniel Romero, Yasua Maeda and Gilbert Grijalva did file by the Friday deadline. They join incumbents Carmen Durazo and Louis Pacheco on the Ballot. Others seeking a seat on the City Council include John Moreno, Luis Castro, Blanca Lopez, Alex Perrone, Michael Mayne and Doctor Muhamed Asiad. The Race for Treasurer also increased. Incumbent Rudy Moreno will be challenged by Alex Perrone and Jordana Selwick. Cordova will run unopposed for re-election.
