(Calexico City Council approves pay increase)…Because of the elections Tuesday, the Calexico City Council held their regular meeting Wednesday evening.

At the meeting, the Council approved a pay increase for themselves. On a 3-2 vote, the Council agreed to raise their pay by 10%. The increase will go into effect in July of 2008. Voting against the increase was Mayor John Renison and Councilwoman Carmen Durazo. Renison said he was not against a pay increase for the Council. He said he voted against the 10% increase because he felt 5% would have been more appropriate. The Mayor said Thursday morning that the pay increase might not affect him. Renison said he has not decided if he wants to seek another term on the Council. Renison recently lost in a bid for a seat on the Imperial Irrigation District Board of Directors.
