Calexico CHP Officer Fatal Shooting Update

(The Calexico Police Department is investigating the shooting death of an off-duty California Highway Patrol Officer)...Lt. Jim Nuejar of the Calexico Police Department says a 911 call was received at around 11:13 Monday morning. The woman reported a man had been shot. When police arrived with Paramedics from the Fire Department, they found the victim lying in the bedroom. Nuejar said the victim was not breathing, but paramedics did all they could to revive him. The man was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Lt. Said the victim was identified as Officer Francisco Cano, a Calexico native and 7-year veteran of the CHP. Cano had just been transferred to the El Centro Sector within the last month. Nuejar says the victim's wife, Kym Cano, apparently admitted to the shooting and was taken into custody. She was charged with suspicion of Homicide. The Lt. Says it was the wife who made the 911 call. He says an autopsy is being performed today. While not speculating, Nuejar said the victim suffered a single gunshot wound. He said the investigation is continuing.
