(Calexico is preparing for Child Safety month)…The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has selected two cities to do special kick-off events for the special month.

They are Calexico and Las Cruces, New Mexico. Camarena Memorial Library and the Calexico Police Department are coordinating the 2008-09 Child Safety Campaign. The local school district will collaborate in the campaign. A major program will be held October 17 at Cesar Chavez Elementary School. The Library and Police Department are sponsoring a Poster Contest for children in grades K through 6. The contest is being held throughout the month of September. It is being held in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. The winner of the Poster Contest will be announced at the October 17 program. The first place winner’s artwork will be used for promotional materials by the National Center during 2009. The promo materials, such as bookmarks and posters, will be distributed nationwide.
