Calexico, Ca. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection ( CBP ) officers at the downtown port of entry in Calexico confiscated nearly 300 pounds of marijuana hidden in a bus. The seizure occurred at about noon Wednesday , August 27 , 2008 , when a 1998 commerical bus , without passengers , was referred to secondary inspection after a human/narcotics detector dog alerted to the bus in a pre-primary operation. During an intensive examination CBP officers discovered a non-factory compartment within the gas tank. 16 very large packages of marijuana , weighing a total of nearly 300 pounds , were found in the compartment. Street value of the narcotic is over $100,000. The bus driver , a Mexican citizen from Ensenada , was arrested.
