(Brawley Chamber encouraging residents to attend Public Hearing)….The City of Brawley has scheduled a public hearing on their proposed water rate increase. The Hearing will be held at 7:00 pm on September 2, in the Brawley City Council Chambers. In an e-mail, the Chamber of Commerce says the proposed water rate increase would affect single-family residents who use a normal amount of water. They say a normal amount is 600 gallons per day. A single-family residence currently pays $44.04 per month, no matter how much water they use. The Chamber says most residential customers have ¾ inch meters. The say the City has made it a priority to protect low water users from large rate impacts. They say under the new proposal, a lifeline user, defined as a customer using water for only essential indoor needs, with minimal landscaping, consuming 225 gallons per day, will see a 10% decrease in their monthly bill for the first year, and another 10% decrease the second year. Low consumers using 450 gallons per day would see no change in their water bills. The Chamber says a single-family residence consuming the normal 600 gallons per day would see the increase. Their bills would go up to $46.94 per month in the first year. If approved, the rate increase would go into effect October 15,2008. |
