(Two arrested in Copper theft)….Brawley Police Sergeant Perry Monita 2 are in custody, and more arrests may be on the way.

Brawley’s Special Operations Team is serving four warrants in their investigation of the theft of around 1,500 pounds of copper wire. Monita said the theft occurred at a Brawley Electric Company. The Special Unit served three warrants at a Trailer Park at 1638 ‘I’ Street Thursday morning. The Sergeant says two men were taken into custody at the trailer park. They were identified as 27-year-old Gilbert Mendoza and 26-year-old Jose Agundez. Monita says another warrant was being served in Westmorland in connection with the theft, but he had no details to release. The Sergeant said the investigation was assisted by a recycling place in El Centro. He would not identify the recycling center at this time. Copper thieves have been hitting Utility Companies, Businesses and even private homes for the past few years.
