A U. S. Border Patrol agent assigned to the El Centro Sector saved the life of a woman overcome by heat in the Imperial Valley desert Friday. The woman was with a group of undocumented immigrants in the Mt. Signal area about 12 miles west of Calexico. When the  Border Patrol agent arrived on scene the woman was unresponsive and had stopped breathing. The agent began to administer Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and was assisted by a member of her travelling group. When the young woman began breathing the agent moved her to his air conditioned vehicle, attempting to lower her core temperature. He then drove her to the highway where they were met by Calexico Fire Department personnel who stabilized the woman and transported her to El Centro Regional Medical Center. The other three people in the group were determined to be in this country illegally. The agent stated, " Even for those who live in the Imperial Valley it's hard to imagine what prolonged exposure to our extreme summer heat can do to a persons body. Once you start to go down , it's hard to come back because you only have minutes. We were fortunate this time. I'm just glad I got there before it was  too late."
