(Local unemployment rate way above state average)….The latest numbers available, the June numbers, indicate a 6.9 % jobless rate statewide. For Imperial County, the June unemployment rate comes in at 22.6 percent. That is the highest jobless rate for Imperial County this decade. The Employment Development Department says jobs have increased this year, but not in the Agricultural sector. They say Ag jobs are still the most prominent in the County, and they still control the local unemployment rate. Because Ag work is seasonal, the E D D says the unemployment rate for Imperial County fluctuates, and is normally high during the summer. |
