(Bicyclist is injured after he runs into a car)….El Centro police say the incident occurred at Dogwood and Ross at around 4:00 pm Wednesday.

Sergeant Jeff Mason says 18 year old Jesse Gonzalez was riding his bicycle north on Dogwood. He apparently failed to stop at the red light on the intersection with Ross. The bike ran into the side of a vehicle heading east on Ross through the intersection. Witnesses say several vehicles had crossed the intersection heading east when Gonzalez ran into the side of the vehicle driven by 37-year-old Claudia Vasquez of Heber. Gonzalez suffered cuts and scrapes. He was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center for treatment. Mason said the report is still being written, but so far there is no evidence Vasquez did anything wrong. He said a decision has not been made as to if Gonzalez will be cited. The Sergeant said bicyclists should be aware that bicycles must be operated just like vehicles and the rules of the road apply to bicyclists just as they do motorists.
