(A fatal injury accident sparks a brush fire)…..It started at around 5:00 Thursday morning.

A westbound vehicle on Interstate 8 went out of control and traveled down an embankment about seven miles west of the Imperial County line. The vehicle was engulfed in flames, and the California Highway Patrol says at least one person was trapped inside. The fire from the burning vehicle spread to the surrounding brush. The fire got out of hand, and quickly spread to over 100 acres. One westbound lane of the Interstate was closed to traffic. California Department of Forestry fire crews responded to the blaze. A helicopter was called in for airdrops, and a fire crew from Riverside County was requested. At last report, officials said the fire had the potential of becoming a major incident.
