(California Public Utility Commission to discuss Area Code Issue)… Chairman of the County Board of Supervisors will be testifying before the Commission.

Supervisor Gary Wyatt said he was not the only one to speak against the new proposal before the Commission. Wyatt said representatives from Mono, Inyo, Kern and other Counties are scheduled to speak at the San Francisco hearing Thursday. The Commission had ruled on the area code situation. The situation is; the 760 area code is running out of number combinations. It had been decided an area in northern San Diego County would change its area code to 442, since it is the fastest growing area. A massive e-mail campaign to the CPUC from San Diego County forced the Administrative law judge to change her recommendation. She is now recommending an over-lay plan. That plan would give all new numbers in the 760 area code zone a 442 area code. The result would be ten-digit dialing, even for calls next door. Imperial County has argued the fairness of the issue. They contend the economic burden resulting from implementing the over-lay plan should be on those who created the problem, in the first place.
