(29^th Annual Farm Worker Appreciation Breakfast next week)…..The Breakfast honors farm workers who contribute greatly to the local economy. Agriculture is once again a billion dollar industry in Imperial County. The special breakfast will be held November 21, beginning at 3:00 in the morning. It will be held at the One Stop Business and Employment Service Center at 301 Heber Avenue in Calexico. The Appreciation Breakfast was started in 1979 by workers of the Calexico office of the Employment Development Department and has become a tradition. In 1985, the Farm Worker Services Coalition was formed by the City of Calexico and the Calexico Chamber of Commerce. In 2006, the Center for Employment Training also became a sponsor. It has transformed from a humble serving of coffee and sweet bread to a handful of Farm Workers to a major event serving over 4,000 people with tamales, beans, sweet bread and coffee. Local politicians and dignitaries traditionally attend and help serve breakfast and great the Farm Workers.
