(Supervisors approve wording of Measure D)….County Counsel Michael Rood asked the Board to approve an emergency declaration to discuss the Measure. Rood wanted the Board to approve the wording of the Measure as it will appear on the November ballot, and adjust the resolution adopted last week allowing for the ballot measure. The adjustments to the resolution submitted by the Local Transportation Authority corrected typos and made some word changes. The ballot measure will ask for a yes or no vote. It will be entitled “Measure D Renewal: Safe Roads, Air Quality, Pothole Repair Continuation Measure.” The measure will appear on ballots county-wide, and it will state; ‘To repair potholes and maintain local streets and roads, reduce traffic congestion, improve County roads and highways, reduce air pollution, improve 911 response times, expand elderly and disabled transit, qualify for matching state and federal funds, provide citizen oversight and annual audits, shall Imperial County Local Transportation Authority Ordinance No. 1-2008 be adopted, which will continue, but not increase, the existing half-cent sales tax for 40 years, per the locally adopted Expenditure Plan.’ Rood told the Board the wording was negotiated between members of the L T A, and he recommended the Supervisors not change a thing. The Supervisors unanimously approved the resolution amendments and the wording to the ballot measure. The attorney said the matter had to be declared an emergency in order to send the measure to the elections department as soon as possible to qualify for the November ballot. |
