(Calexico School Board to discuss Alvarez contract)…David Alvarez recently retired as Superintendent of the Calexico Unified School District. His tenure has been described as “rocky” as far as the District’s finances are concerned, leading to several cutbacks and employee lay-off. An agreement has been worked out where Alvarez will stay on at the District as a “Facilities Director.” K X O News has obtained a copy of the agreement to be discussed at the Board meeting tonight. It is a three-month agreement, retroactive to July 1 and ending September 30. The agreement can be terminated early by either party with 30 days prior written notice. The agreement says Alvarez will assist the current Superintendent David Groesbeck during the transition period; he will close out the current projects at Enrique Camarena Jr. High, Aurora High and the Rockwood School Addition; He will complete and submit the application for the Calexico High School Modernization Project; Coordinate the moving of 17 classrooms at Calexico High School, Aurora High School, Mains Elementary and Camarena Jr. High: Assist the Superintendent with the Annual Developers Fee Justification Study and the Annual End of the Year Developer Fee Expenditure Report; plus any other duties assigned by the Superintendent. Alvarez will be paid $25,000 for the three months, divided equally in three monthly payments. Alvarez will receive health and welfare benefits, but no vacation or sick leave. Also at the meeting tonight the School Board will discuss an Administrative Reorganization Plan submitted by Groesbeck. The California School Employees Association says there may be legal problems with the proposed plan. The meeting will be held in the Administration Building Board Room on Andrade Avenue at 6:00 tonight. |
