Alvarez issue may not be over PDF Print E-mail

(David Alvarez is not getting his 3-month contract. Or, is he?)….The Calexico Unified School Board met twice on the proposed contract.

If approved, the contract would pay the retired Superintendent $25,000 to serve three months as a facilitator to tie up loose ends on various projects left hanging when Alvarez retired June 30. He would also assist the current Superintendent, David Groesbeck, in his transition to the job. During the first recent meeting, only three School Board members showed up. It was decided to hold off on a vote until a complete five-member board was present. A special meeting was set for this past Thursday at 7:00 am. Again, only 3 members attended, but this time a vote was taken, and the proposal was shot down. Board member Michael Castillo voted against the contract. Many thought the issue was over. Sources with the District say it may not be. They say it is expected the proposal will be brought up again, at a regular Board meeting. They say Sal Pacheco wants to vote in favor of the contract. Pacheco did not attend either of the previous two meetings.
