(Air Pollution Control District given the go ahead to bring old buses into compliance)….The County Board of Supervisors gave the A P C D the go ahead to continue a program that began some time ago.

The program allows air pollution control to work with the local school districts in bringing older school buses into compliance with air quality standards, by replacing some and retro-fitting other so they can operate on natural gas. The local air pollution control district has $2.6 million for the program this year. The local A P C D was also given the go-ahead by the Supervisors to purchase seven more Electric cars. The non-polluting vehicles are currently being used by several County Departments. Two of the new vehicles will go to the Sunbeam Lake Park, One will go to the new Corfman Junior High, one will go to San Diego Sate University, one will go to the County Airport, one will go to Central Valley Cemetery, and one will go to County Procurement for the pick up and delivery of mail. The new Gem Electric vehicles will cost the A P C D around $85,000, including delivery.
