Accident Proves Fatal

A man died as a result of injuries sustained in an accident on Interstate 8 this afternoon. The accident occurred at about 1:15 this afternoon when a woman with a flat tire pulled over to the shoulder of westbound Interstate 8 between Dogwood Road and 4th Street in El Centro. The woman was changing the right front tire when a second van pulled over and a man stopped to assist her. While they were changing the tire a third vehiclle , a Toyota Corrola , slammed into the back of the womans van and caused both vans to move forward several feet. The woman was pinned under the van and El Centro Fire Department personnel had to jack-up the van to get her out. She was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center with major injuries The man who stopped to help received major head trauma and he was also transported to ECRMC. The driver of the Toyota was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. No names have been released yet and the accident remains under investigation.
