A man tries to runover a Calexico cop.

(A 28 year old is in jail and a Police Officer is on administrative leave today)….Police in Calexico arrested Sergio Jimenez after he allegedly tried to run over a police officer in the 1200 block of David Navarro Street early Wednesday morning. Sergeant Gonzalo Gerardo said officers were called to the area after receiving a report of a suspicious person in the area. Gerardo says after the suspect allegedly tried to run over the officer, the policeman fired a round from his service revolver at the vehicle. The shot reportedly hit the vehicle, but not the suspect. Jimenez was booked into County Jail on one count of felony assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $50,000. The officer, who was not identified, was placed on administrative leave until an investigation into the shooting is complete. Officials say this is common practice after an officer involved shooting of any type.
