$2.8 million in drug seizures at Calexico Ports

(Over 300 pounds of illegal drugs seized since Saturday)…Custom And Border Protection Officers at the Calexico Ports say 286 pounds of Cocaine and 53 pounds of Methamphetamine has been seized at both Ports in the last 5 days. The total value of the seized narcotics is $2.8 million. The latest seizure occurred Thursday at around noon. Officers say two Mexican Nationals, a male and female from Mexicali and San Luis, Rio Colorado, drove up to the Downtown Port in a 1999 Jeep Cherokee. They say the male driver was accompanied by his mother-in-law. They presented their documents, but the officers say they appeared nervous. They were sent to the secondary inspection area for a more detailed search. The k-9 narcotics dog hit on the vehicle. Officers say they found 64 pounds of Cocaine in 27 individually wrapped packages. The vehicle, its occupants and drugs were turned over to the Immigration Customs enforcement for further investigation.
