CHP releases more details on collision

(More information on Fatal injury collision)….The collision was reported early Saturday morning.

The California Highway Patrol says a Toyota 4-runner, being driven by 33 year old Carlos Abundis of Imperial, was headed North on Highway 111. The preliminary report says the Toyota was traveling at 70 miles per hour in the #1 lane. They say a Kawasaki Motorcycle, in the same lane, approached the Toyota at a high rate of speed. The CHP says the motorcycle, ridden by 26-year-old Manuel Romero Cruz, impacted the rear of the 4-runner. Cruz was ejected from the motorcycle, suffering fatal injuries. The impact forced Abundis to lose control of the Toyota and it over-turned. The driver was not injured. A female passenger, 32-year-old Karycia Abundis complained of pain to her face and neck. She was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center. A 9-month-old infant was properly installed in a car safety seat. The baby was transferred to ECRMC as a precaution. The CHP is continuing to investigate the collision.
