A veteran El Centro Police Officer has passed away from complications from the COVID-19 virus.

Officer Efren Coronel was a senior patrol officer and Officer in Charge of his patrol team. He died Wednesday from medical complications due to him contracting the coronavirus while on duty. 

Officer Coronel served nearly 24 with the El Centro Police Department and according to ECPD Chief Brian Johnson he was not only a police officer , but someone that loved volunteering his time supporting youth programs and coaching youth soccer. Officer Coronel was 51-years old and is survived by his wife and two children.
