Brawley Police have made an arrest in the most recent string of arson fires in that city.
On Wednesday , April 24, 2013 , Brawley Police and Fire Departments responded to a series of seven suspicious trash and trash bin fires between 1:55 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.. The first three fires were located in the south alley of the 100 block of 'B' Street , in the south alley of the 900 block of 'J' Street and the south alley of the 200 block of 'C' Street. The next four fires that day were reported in the 600 block of North 7th Street , the south alley of the 500 block of Main Street , the north alley of 500 block of Main Street and in the south alley of the 900 block of 'J' Street. During the investigation of the fires , video evidence was located that provided investigators with a photograph of the alleged arsonist.
On Thursday , April 25, 2013 , at about 7:00p.m. , Brawley Police Officer D. Santiago observed a person matching the desription of the arson suspect riding a bicycle in the 1500 block of 'I' Street. The bike rider was detained and just moments later a fire was reported in the 1300 block of 'J' Street. The bicyclist , 20-year old Fernando Garcia , was positively identified as the person in the photograph from the Wednesday fire video. Gracia was arrested and booked at Imperial County Jail for arson. Brawley investigators are continuing to look at all the recent fires and try to determine if a connection exists between Gracia and the four juveniles arrested last week and charged in the earlier fires.
