A U. S. Border Patrol agent was assaulted by an illegal alien attempting to enter the United States.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when the agent who was working in the mountains just west of Ocotillo encountered a 30-year old man attempting to cross the border. During the arrest , the man , identified as Filomeno Pu-Castro from Guatemala , attempted to run away and when stopped by the agent , Pu-Castro struck the agent with his head and elbow. The agent suffered a cut lip and injuries to his knees and arm from wresting with the suspect. Pu-Castro was charged with assaulting , resisting or impeding officers. At his bond hearing , the suspect was granted a bond of $15,000 and given permission to travel to Florida. Border Patrol agents subsequently issued a detainer and assumed custody of Pu-Castro who was to be deported back to Guatemala.
