(Supervisors award contract to the Digital Fruth Group)…It is a 5-year, $1.2 million contract.

The Fruth Group, however, was not the selection committee’s first choice. They had recommended Canon Solutions America, who had provided copiers to the County for the past 15 years. The two businesses were rated, and American scored just one point higher than the Fruth Group. Fruth cried foul last week, saying the scoring was not fair, especially considering the Fruth bid was almost $200,000 lower than the winning bid. Last week the Supervisors asked for more details on the selection process. This week, the Board said the two firms were virtually tied in the scoring process. District 2 Supervisor Jack Terrazas said the deciding factor for him was the low bid. He said the monetary bids were too far apart to ignore. The rest of the Board agreed, and they voted unanimously to reverse the recommendation, and award the contract to the Fruth Group.
